5 Great Walks Near Chippenham

 

The pretty market town of Chippenham is a delightful place to wonder around with plenty of history to discover and vibrant street markets at the weekend.

It's also a great base for exploring the region as there are a number of wonderful little villages within 15 minutes drive from the town, each offering some fantastic countryside walking. Here are 5 of our favourites from the Wiltshire Walks App.

Lacock

1. Lacock

If you take a short 10 minute drive away from Chippenham to the south, you'll discover the pretty village of Lacock. The Wiltshire Walks app has a lovely short family-friendly circular stroll around the village itself, the grounds of the wonderful Lacock Abbey and a gorgeous stretch of walking alongside the River Avon. There are also a number of fabulous pubs in the village, making this a great day out.

2. Corsham

Just over 10 minutes drive away to the south west from Chippenham, you will then find Corsham which is another pretty market town with plenty of shops and pretty pubs. For those of you with a more adventurous spirit, the Wiltshire Walks App then has 6 different circular walking routes from the town, ranging from a short 1.5 mile stroll around the town itself, all the way up to an epic 12 mile countryside adventure that was part of the Corsham walking festival.

3. Box

If you keep heading the south west a few more miles past Corsham, you'll then cross the county border into Gloucestershire and come to the village of Box. Box is a wonderful village nestled in the gorgeous undulating countryside of Box Valley and the Wiltshire Walks App has two fabulous walks to choose from. One takes you through lovely countryside and gives some great views of the dramatic Box Tunnel and the other was another route from the Corsham Walking Festival.

4. Biddestone

If you head to the west of Chippenham, on another 10 minute drive, you will then come across the gorgeous little village of Biddestone. It's worth a visit to the village itself with it's wonderful Cotswold houses and village pub, but the Wiltshire Walks App also has a lovely long circulate countryside walk from the village. This walk was also part of the Corsham Walking Festival and explores the countryside between Biddestone, Slaughterford and Ford.

5. Castle Combe

If you're happy to drive a little bit further (20 minute drive from Chippenham), then you can also visit the postcard perfect village of Castle Combe. The village itself is worth the journey alone with it's wonderful houses, brook and pubs, but the Wiltshire Walks App also has three different circular walking routes to enjoy ranging from a 1 mile stroll around the village, up to a 6 mile adventure that also visits the village of Ford.
