The walk
Silbury Hill Walk
This walk offers a good alternative starting point for a walk around the historic site of Avebury.
The car park here is free and you start at the largest prehistoric chalk mound in Europe (Silbury Hill) before walking alongside the River Kennet to the Avebury site.
On the walk back you'll walk through open countryside and then climb over Waden Hill to get back to the start, offering you some nice views.

Great walk in early Feb. It was quite wet and muddy after all the rain but was fine in walking boots. Takes you around rhe Avebury stones.......

Lovely dog friendly walk, lead walking around the stones but on the paths he could happily explore off lead. The paths were rather muddy but that’s to be expected at this time of year. There were a couple of detours needed, due to Covid and preservation activities in Avebury but we managed to get back on track easily enough. Refreshments are available in Avebury.

Lovely walk with good views but the path was a bit muddy. The car park at Silbury Hill is not free, payment (£2) is by text message but we struggled to get a signal.

We really enjoyed this walk, it was a lovely way to get to Avebury. Having a drink break at the Red Lion was a lovely treat.

Beautiful walk with superb views across the rolling wiltshire countryside. The best bit though was the amazing number of butterflies, never seen so many in one spot before.
