White Sheet Downs walk 03

Long Walk

Walk distance
5¼ miles
Time
2.5 hours
Route type
Circular

Our longest route turns a visit to White Sheet Downs into a more immersive countryside walk, heading south through a broad, open valley with a strong sense of space.

Later on, the route reaches the site of Mere Castle, adding a touch of history before looping back through open farmland beneath the downs.

It’s a rewarding longer walk that blends chalk downland, valley walking, and wide rural views into a satisfying few hours outdoors.

You can also walk into Mere itself for refreshments if required.
