Yatesbury Walks & Route Maps

Our first walk from Yatesbury sets out across wide, open downland where the sense of space is immediate. The terrain is largely uncomplicated, with gentle gradients and big skies giving the route an exposed, airy feel.

Midway, a steady climb leads up Windmill Hill, where broad views open out across the surrounding countryside. It’s a natural high point and a good place to pause before easing back down.

Overall, it’s a straightforward countryside walk best enjoyed on a clear day, offering a relaxed few hours of open landscape and far-reaching views.

This second walk option from Yatesbury stretches the earlier route into a longer outing, keeping the open, exposed feel throughout. The walk again rises to Windmill Hill, where wide views set the tone for the adventure.

Later, a long, steady descent leads towards Avebury, home to one of Britain’s most important prehistoric landscapes. A village pub offers a welcome pause before the return leg, which follows a gentle, unhurried line back across open countryside.

It’s a calm but lengthy and exposed route, with space, history and big skies as constant companions.

Our longest walk from Yatesbury heads south across open downland, with wide horizons and an exposed feel throughout. The route gradually builds towards the majestic hills around Cherhill, where the landscape becomes more dramatic and the sense of space really opens out.

Later, the walk passes the landmark Lansdowne Monument, with far-reaching views across the downs. A short detour into the village of Cherhill offers a detour to a welcome pub stop before the long climb back.

It’s an energetic, rewarding route that combines big views, steady effort and classic downland scenery for a memorable few hours out.

Please note, you have to cross a busy and fast road twice on this route, so it might not be suitable for all walkers.
