Coombe Bissett Walks & Route Maps

This first route option is a pleasant and short stroll along the pretty valley to the east of Coombe Bissett that also visits the lovely village pub at the end of the route.

There is a bit of a 'there and back' section on the route as this is to avoid too much walking on the road, although there still is some road walking through the village, so please be careful here.

This second route option also has an element of 'there and back' on it, but this provides a more relatively flat route compared to the longer options from Coombe Bissett.

You'll enjoy the valley walk to the west of the village this time as it tracks the River Ebble, and the route also visits two lovely churches. There is also a little detour at the end of the walk to the village pub if you need refreshments.

This third route is a lovely (but now getting quite strenuous) circular walk that climbs up onto the downs to the south of Coombe Bassett.

You'll climb the big Coombe Bassett Down and Throope Hill on the first main loop of the walk before then heading back to the village along flatter ground via the village of Stratford Tony and at times along the River Ebble.

This fourth route option is another long and hilly circular walk, this time exploring the downs to the north of Coombe Bissett. You'll first head off west tracking the River Ebble to the village of Stratford Tony with it's pretty church.

Then, you'll climb north up the steep Cranbourne Droves Way until you meet the Old Shaftsbury Drove track and then follow that along the downs until it meets the Avon Valley Path.

This path takes you back down and over more hills until you get back into the valley and head along a pretty path back to Coombe Bissett.

The final route option is an epic and very strenuous adventure in the downs to the south of the village.

After heading out of the village you'll then follow a quiet lane that takes you up the hill for a while before it opens up and you'll then enjoy a long sweeping journey around the majestic downs with lots of wonderful views to enjoy.

After your adventure in the hills, you'll then descend back down into the valley and enjoy the final flat stretch of walking between the villages of Stratford Tony and Coombe Bassett.

There is a lot of climbing involved on this very long and exposed walk, so please go prepared with appropriate clothing and refreshments. It's also important to ensure you have a full battery when you set off as the GPS uses more battery than usual.

Minimise the app when you don't need it as that saves battery, and always have alternative means of navigation, or a backup battery with you, especially on the longer walks.
