Ravensroost Wood Walks & Route Maps

Lovely walk in the woods, nice and quiet great place to walk and unwind.

Nice short walk, peaceful and saw few other visitors. There were no styles but a number of gates to negotiate. Dogs have to be on lead, but that’s to be expected as it’s a nature reserve.

I absolutely loved this walk, I did start to flag about two thirds of the way around but it was beautiful so that kept me going. The carpark was closed as was the first section of forest, one of the styles has seen better days and I had to climb one gate due to it being tied shut. Highly recommend.

A farmer has put up yellow warning signs of electrifed fencing in two spots - directly where you can see the public footpath signs, and you can clearly see the historic signs of the footpath. We ducked under and carried on. We went after a very dry period, but there is a specific stretch that i expect would very muddy after rain. A lovely walk.

This is a lovely walk although we did have to go through a field of cows which we weren’t too keen on! There was a stretch which was very muddy and the walk was actually 7 miles rather than 6 but overall an enjoyable walk.

Really loved this walk. Varied terrain, some lovely countryside we had never seen despite being on our doorstep. Route was easy to follow. Only problem was terrible mud on one stretch, despite a few dry days. Almost impassable, but we managed with some determination. But the rest of the route was lovely and we will repeat again in drier weather.

Small car park at the site for probably 5 cars. It was full when I got there around 1000. Walk is pretty accurate and has a couple of styles. Longer than I would have liked on roads, but overall fine. May be difficult in places when wet as it is mostly bridle path and well trodden by horses.

I went anti-clockwise on the longer route. Lots of bluebells so if you can go at this time of year then it is worth a visit. Two stiles on route with no gap for dogs so I had to lift a heavy struggling labrador over. One 5 bar gate had a bent latch so I had to wiggle and lift the gate for a few minutes before i could open it. In some places it was very rutted with hoofprints and tyre tracks so in wet weather it looks like it would be very deep mud.

Very enjoyable - kids would love the woods.
