Harnham Watermeadows Walks & Route Maps

This short, easy-going route explores the attractive Queen Elizabeth Gardens, a well-kept green space close to the heart of Salisbury.

The paths wander through lawns and flowerbeds, with gentle stretches alongside the River Avon, where the water and open views create a calm, relaxed feel.

The route also links into the wide grassy expanse of the Harnham Water Meadows, a classic riverside landscape just beyond the gardens.

This second circular route from Queen Elizabeth Gardens is a longer walk that combines riverside paths, open countryside and a touch of woodland into a varied outing just outside the city.

The walk takes in peaceful stretches beside the River Nadder, quiet field paths and the wide, grassy expanse of the Harnham Water Meadows, creating a relaxed mix of scenery.

Back in Harnham, The Old Mill offers a welcome spot for refreshments. It’s a pleasant long walk with a gentle, countryside feel, ideal for a steady few hours close to Salisbury.

Like our second route, the walk enjoys peaceful stretches beside the rivers, grassy meadowland and quiet green spaces, before then extending into the historic city centre, where streets, shops and old buildings add a different character to the outing.
