This is a truly glorious and varied adventure around the Vale of Pewsey.

It will take you around the top of Martinsell Hill which offers stunning views, it'll take you through lovely countryside along the White Horse Trail, it'll meander along a big stretch of the Kennet and Avon Canal and it'll visit the pretty village of Wootton Rivers with it's charismatic pub.

There is some moderate climbing on this route and our users have recommended walking this one anticlockwise to get a steep climb out of the way early in the walk and also put the welcome pub more towards the end of the walk.

I really enjoyed this walk. Even though rain had fallen the night before, soaking much of the ground, the going was relatively easy (definitely take this one anti-clockwise because coming up the hill the long way might be tough). I ran short of time and skipped the section from the Pub to the carpark and took a quiet lane way instead. The views from Martinsell Hill were amazing - schedule in a break there to soak it all in! The canal was lovely and I added a stop at The Shed Alehouse in Pewsey which was well worth it.

Cracking walk on a sunny winters day, went anti clockwise as recommended ......Towards the end the path back to the carpark was pretty muddy

Walker review

Good walk. Quite a lot of nettles in certain parts, eg between fields. Some mud too (13 August) after quite rainy periods. Good idea to book at the pub.

Walker review

Definitely a fabulous walk. You will want to start anti-clockwise and go uphill from the carpark and get that climb "out of the way".To do the walk clockwise would leave a huge hill climb towards the end of the walk and would put the pub too early in the walk to appreciate. There were some sheep but only along the top of the hill and then a few sheep and cattle in the distance a couple of times. The walk along the canalpath is blissful and the pub towards the end restores energy for the final climb back to the carpark.

Lovely walk!

Walker review

Best one yet! Wonderful hill scenery, some woods and canal walking, smashing pub with lovely local ales. Lovely way to spend your Sunday.

Walker review

Great walk if you don’t mind a bit of a climb. Fantastic views in places. Nice pub to stop off for lunch.
