From easy strolls around Stanborough Park’s lakes to longer routes linking Sherrardspark Wood and the Brocket Hall estate, these walks provide a great way to experience both the natural and urban sides of the area at a relaxed or more adventurous pace.

The walk is on solid paths throughout so is again suitable walk for all abilities and an easy walk with wheels.

Went on a very chilly sunday morning, the lakes were iced over in parts. The river had slightly come over the underpass footpath that takes you from one lake to the other, worth bearing in mind when the river is high. Biggest reason for lower score is the rip off car park. 1 hour costs £1.50, it then jumps to £6 for up to 3 hours. Pure greed.

This third route is a longer walk that still enjoys the lakes at the Stanborough Park, but it also then heads out on a varied adventure in and around Welwyn Garden City.
After enjoying the lake, the walk heads into the town itself where you'll find various shopping centres and eateries before then heading out of the town into Sherrardspark Wood. After enjoying the majestic woodlands, the walk then takes you to the west to explore the wonderful Brocket Hall park.
These public footpaths go through a golf course, so please stick closely to the route and be both wary and respectful of golfers and their flying balls!

The bridge you go under rhe a1m in the bottom left of the map had no path as it was flooded. No other route to cross the road at that point. The river path was a foot deep in water which is the only option.
Welwyn Garden City. Walk 3...An enjoyable, varied walk that takes you through Welwyn Garden City. The cafe at the start/finish was closed but the Public Toilets next to it were open. Soon after the start, you walk along the edge of the northern lake of Stanborough Park before heading into the town. The walk then takes you into Sherrardspark Wood and through the stunning grounds of Brocket Hall. We had seen various comments about the underpass below the A1(M) being flooded. It wasn’t too bad when we got there but still around 10cm deep (and slippery). There is an alternative route (straight down the Great North Road) if you don’t fancy wet feet. Also be prepared to pay (a seemingly quite high) price to park (£10 for over 3 hours).
Not possible to go through subway under m1 after rain as it was totally flooded. We had to find our own alternative route

This final walk is the official 'Welwyn Garden City Centenary Walk'.
It's a long walk that circumnavigates the town of Welwyn Garden City calling in on various lovely areas of countryside and woodland including the Stanborough Park lakes, the Brocket Hall Park and Sherrardspark Woods.
There are then two pubs to choose from towards the end of the walk. It's a long adventure, so the refreshments will be welcome!
We have also marked a route from the train station to join this long circular route if you want to get there by train.

Tunnel back to Stanborough under road still...flooded and fast flowing today, went round on the roads so ruins route at end. Glad had app the route is poorly signposted in places. There are many much better routes on this app.
This walk was really badly signposted, so the app was helpful but would be better if it had street names.
The underpass under the A1m from stanborough to the great north is flooded and I doubt its accessible
Don't be in a rush with this long walk, maybe too far for most dogs. Route is amazing.
Where you cross under the A1 near Stanborough lakes it was very flooded so you need wellies!!(or do what i did and took my trainers and socks off and went barefoot through it!)Really well signposted and a lovely walk
