Walk information
This first walk option (the orange route) is the short way-marked route around the Nomansland Common. The common is full of lovely woodland, heathland and wildlife and it's name comes from the 15th century where the land was heavily contested between the parishes of Wheathampstead and Sandridge.

Lovely short walk, half through the common and half through the woods, no physical path only a dirt trail. Suitable footwear would be required depending on the weather. Very popular route with dog walkers.
Walk information
This second walk option (the red-dotted route) is basically a longer walk that fully explores the Nomansland common for those of you with a little bit more time. There is also a little detour into the centre of the common where there is a great climbing tree that the kids will love.
There is also a nice cafe on this version of the route that is open on the weekends.

Easy, child friendly walk. Much fun was had in the woods and West End barns is an excellent place to stop for a coffee, cake or ice cream. Some bits of path are very overgrown with brambles but there are alternative paths.
First part was good but second part was overgrown with brambles. Wear long trousers!
Its a lovely walk, easy when dry, there were a few bits that were quite boggy glad we bought the buggy with big wheels. Lovely walk will do it again.
Lovely mix of meadows and woodland, lots of wildlife, encountered a few horse riders. Would be ok with an off road buggy. Fun climbing trees for the kids
Nomansland common is beautiful, although the section through the woods is a little hard to follow and bumpy in parts. Was ok for a buggy with big wheels. There are some parts near the road so dogs will need to be put back on a lead, but can mostly run free safely. No inclines so a nice leisurely walk!
Lovely stroll on a sunny autumn day with two very different sides. Common land open on one side and woodland with lots of old native trees on the other.

The thirds option is a much longer walk that also enjoys the wildlife and woodland of Nomansland Common, but this route first takes you out on a big walking loop to the east through open countryside and calling in on the Symondshyde Great Wood for some more majestic woodland walking.
The route calls in on a great pub about �
� of the way around the route for some well earned refreshments and there is a cafe on the route as well for ice cream and refreshing drinks.

Walked on a very hot (but thankfully windy) sunday but went early so the very nice looking pub was closed as I came through so no official toilet break. However, made it to the cafe at the end (slight detour) as walk 3 does not automatically take you there. Great ice cream and cold drinks with ice on offer. Lovely walk.
Reasonable size car park that was quite busy midweek. I wonder if it does get full at weekends. The walk doesn’t have any ’wow’ factors but is definitely varied enough to be enjoyable. Great for dog walks but not really for buggies due to a few small gates. Overall a good, enjoyable walk on good paths that takes on nice, quiet routes. The John Bunyan pub on route makes the walk even more attractive.
Lovely walk, hardly saw any other walkers (except the DofE groups near Nomansland), John Bunyan pub was an hour wait for food so we diverted into Wheathampstead and stopped at the Old Brewhouse for delicious cake and coffee. Not too middy despite the rain we’ve had recently
We loved this walk, its the first time we have used the app and found it to be really helpful and accurate. Some of the paths were muddy so best to wear walking boots or wellies. The cafe was cute, very small but friendly service and nice cakes.
Very nice and easy walk, nice views sometimes. It was sometimes muddy and I’d recommend boots, but you can make it with normal waterproof shoes. Sometimes you are walking on tarmac, in the forest and on the fields. Pub on the way was ok, but no Sunday roast and no hot chocolate. ;) But food was good.

This final route option is basically an epic adventure for those of you that really want to stretch those legs and fully explore this area of Hertfordshire.
It enjoys everything from the long third walk, with the Nomansland Common, Open Countryside, Symondshyde Great Wood and fantastic pub, but this route all starts off with a roam through and around the newly planted Heartwood Forest site.

There is a section of the walk that is shut off because of birds nesting in the field, it is possible to go around on another path which is easy to follow. (Its after having crossed the road walking away from hartwood forest and the field opens up) Also, very muddy in winter so bring wellies/good boots!
