St Albans Walks & Route Maps

This delightful city of Saint Albans pub walk is a mixture of lazy lakeside meandering and cultural discovery that begins with a short detour to an impressive Roman Mosaic housed in a free entry building.

After this, the walk takes you on a stroll up to the majestic Saint Albans cathedral which is well worth a visit before leading you back down through the Verulamium park alongside the large and pretty lake.

Next, the walk takes you past some fantastic historic old pubs on this route for a pit stop before taking you to the site of some Roman Theatre remains, which has a small entry fee.

Finally, the walk concludes with a visit to the Verulamium Museum, where you can find out about everything Roman for a small fee. (At the time of publishing, you can ask for a ticket to the museum and the theatre together for a discounted rate).

This second route includes all of the roman adventures, the majestic cathedral and the lakes that you'll enjoy on the first route, but this walk then heads deeper into the city to explore the shops, eateries and historic buildings that are in abundance there.

The extra distance takes you through the streets of St Albans and amongst other places you'll visit the old London Road railway building, the St Albans Museum and Clock Tower, the old Odyssey cinema, the historic Ye Olde Fighting Cocks pub, St Peter's church and a walk alongside the River Ver to the Alban Way.

The third route is the official St Albans Green Ring route, which is a continuous walking and cycling route that encircles the city centre.

The route primarily enhances existing cycling and walking routes and extends from Townsend in the north to Fleetville in the east, Sopwell in the south and into Verulam Estate to the west.

This isn't the prettiest of our walk options from St Albans, but it's a useful map to use if you want to use the Green Ring way to get around the city.
