Batford Springs Walks & Route Maps

This is a short stroll around the beautiful Batford Springs nature reserve.

If you love wildlife, you'll love this small natural space with a really well maintained wooden boardwalk that takes you through the thick of the action.

The red-dotted optional extra takes you on a path that has two stepping stone crossings that the kids will love. Obviously, be careful if you choose to tackle those!

There is a pub next to the start of the walk if you need refreshments.

If you want a slightly longer walk, this second route option is a good one for you.

Like the first route, it enjoys the nature reserve and the optional stepping stones adventure (the red-dotted line on the map).

However, it then heads out for another loop of walking that enjoys a pretty riverside meadow, a stretch of walking along the nicely shaded old discontinued railway line to Luton, and visits a lovely little pub.

This final route is a longer (and probably a bit more perilous) walk for those of you that want an adventure from Batford Springs.

You'll first enjoy the serenity and wildlife of the Nature Reserve (and the optional stepping stones on the red-dotted route line), before heading off on an extra walk that tracks a cycle track alongside the main road for a bit, before embarking on a big climb up a hill along a lesser-trodden shaded footpath.

This path up the hill is a bit bumpy with roots, and can be a bit overgrown in places, but should be no problem with the correct clothing and footwear.

Once you reach the top you'll then stroll along a quiet lane for a while before heading back down the hill through some open fields with pretty views before finally reaching the woodlands of Marshall's Heath.

After enjoying the Heath with it's rustic playground, you'll find your way to the old discontinued railway line to Luton, where you'll enjoy a long shaded and solid path all the way back to the lovely Marquis of Granby pub, where you can reward yourself for your efforts.
