This first route option is a short and relatively flat ramble in the countryside around the village of Jockey End. It's quite a simple walk through arable farmland, the Hedgeswood Common and a small section of woodland, so it's a good one for a leg stretch or a dog walk.

The second route is basically a short extension to the first route for those of you with a little bit more time.
The extra distance takes you through some more arable farmland and walks along part of the Hertfordshire Way, so it doesn't add much variety. However, it does add some extra distance and fresh air to the walk.

Theres a comment posted that part the route has been built over - this was not our experience. Route fully accessible. We did in very dry weather but imagine could be very muddy at times and there are numerous styles.
Would be a lovely walk in better weather, the fields were boggy and hard to walk in, think i went over 5 stiles and dogs needed to go over a couple, and was a little hard to navigate in a couple of places, still enjoyed ourselves and felt like a good leg workout through all fhe muddy fields :-)

The third route option is a further extension to the first and second routes. However, this extension offers a lot more hilly walking and rewards the extra effort with a lovely stretch of woodland walking in Hoo Wood, as well as some nice views at various points of the walk.

Very nice autumnal walk (made all the better by warm sunshine). Combination of field and very nice wood walking. Some pleasant ‘tree tunnels’ and an abundance of birds are the main memories. A few muddy parts but nothing very bad.
Beautiful walk enjoyed on a sunny Sunday afternoon.
Really nice walk. Very quiet on route. Nice mix of field and tracked forest. A few styles on route so not good for dogs. A small field with a few sheep but no worries. We walked it in February which has been fairly dry but I think it could get a little boggy going through the fields if there was any prolonged rain. Easy to follow route even though it looks like you are entering private property sometimes, but don't worry you are not. Just enjoy the walk!
Lovely varied paths. Very quiet.
A lovely, enjoyable walk, however not dog friendly for the first 15-20 minute section of the walk. The very first field is a childrens playground that states no dogs are allowed and then if you join the walk after this you almost immediately meet with two stiles which are not suitable for dogs. You can only lift your dog over of which I had a 30 kg dog with me. Something to bare in mind, the first section is a no go for dog walkers.

This fourth option is our longest, most varied and most strenuous walk from Jockey End.
There's a fair amount of climbing involved as half way around the walk you will descend down into the River Gade valley to visit the village of Great Gaddesden and stroll alongside the river.
To get to Great Gaddesden, you will walk along a lovely stretch of the Chiltern Way, and heading back you will ramble along the Hertfordshire Way, walking through the Goo Wood on the way.

Lots of livestock (cows, horses, sheep), wouldn’t recommend as a dog walk. Beautiful views.
