Hertfordshire Walks
Set in the rolling countryside on the edge of the Chiltern Hills, these walks around the National Trust’s Ashridge Estate are a lovely way to explore one of Hertfordshire’s most treasured woodland landscapes.
Whether you choose the gentle short stroll or one of the longer routes, you’ll wander beneath tall beech trees, pass the impressive Ashridge Monument and enjoy peaceful paths through classic English countryside.
The longer options stretch further along the grand Prince’s Riding and out towards Frithsden Beeches and Berkhamsted Common, adding a real sense of adventure before looping back through the woods.
Whichever route you follow, the café at the estate provides a warm and welcome spot for refreshments at the end.

This is a short stroll around the wonderful woodlands of the National Trust's Ashridge Estate.
You'll enjoy the woodlands of course, as well as visiting the impressive monument and enjoying some refreshments in the cafe.

Very muddy in parts. You can shave about half a mile off the walk if you drive past the parking spot in the directions and park in the main car park by the cafe - although the main car park fills up very early at the weekend.

If you have a bit more time, this second route is a longer adventure around the gorgeous woodlands of the National Trust's Ashridge Estate.
As with the first route, you'll enjoy the woodlands, the impressive monument and the National Trust cafe. However, you'll also enjoy more woodland and a long walk along the Prince's riding avenue of trees.

Really lovely walk including some beautiful bluebells at this time of year.

This final route is basically an extension to the second route that also enjoys the Prince's Riding, lovely woodland, monument and cafe.
The extra walking on this route takes you further away from the core woodland of Ashridge estate, where you'll enjoy parts of the Frithsden Beeches and Berkhamstead Common before heading back round through Cromer wood.

Lovely walk. Very muddy and slippery in thr colder and wetter months, however. Dog loved it!
