Redbrook Walks & Route Maps

You can choose from three beautiful walks from Redbrook's main car park, each offering different lengths and experiences.

All routes showcase the natural beauty and rich history of the Wye Valley. Our first walk follows a section of the Offa's Dyke Path, an historic trail tracing the 8th-century earthwork that once marked the boundary between England and Wales.

This route includes some steep sections, but your efforts are rewarded with stunning views over the Wye Valley. Along the way, you'll pass through woodland trails and enjoy a stretch running alongside the River Wye, offering a lovely mix of scenery.

This walk starts in the village of Redbrook and takes you along the peaceful banks of the River Wye, heading towards Monmouth. From there, it's then a steep climb up the historic Offa's Dyke Path to The Kymin, where you'll discover the famous Naval Temple and The Round House.

Over 200 years ago, Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton visited this spot to enjoy its breathtaking views, and today, it remains a stunning place to take in the scenery.

Along the way, you'll find some great places to stop for refreshments. Across the Penallt Viaduct is The Boat Inn, offering lovely views of the River Wye, while The Bell Inn is also close to the route (access via main road - A466). In Monmouth, around halfway through the walk, The Mayhill Hotel provides another option for a well-earned break.

Please note, there is some road walking without paths on this route. Also, a short section of the walk follows a path beside the A4136, ignore the first footpath on the right marked 'private', the actual public footpath is a little further along.

This walk follows a section of the Offa's Dyke Path, Offa's Dyke is a large linear earthwork that runs roughly along the modern day border between England and Wales.

It was built in the 8th century, during the reign of King Offa of Mercia and is believed to be constructed as a defensive boundary. There are some steep sections but this provides some elevation, rewarding you with amazing views over the Wye Valley and the river.

The walk also takes you through Cadora Wood, an ancient woodland, with oak, ash and beech, providing opportunities to see plenty of native wildlife. Refreshments can be found at ‘The Boat Inn' across the Penallt viaduct and ‘The Bell Inn' also close to our route (access via main road - A466). There is also a village shop.
