You’ll pass the dramatic Fault Crater Monument and walk carefully along its edge before looping back across the fields, with the option of refreshments at the pub near the start.

The walk
This is a short circular walk that takes you past the Fault Crater Monument.
On this walk, you can actually see the fascinating crater that was created when an underground store for highly explosive bombs exploded in 1944 causing a farm to be obliterated, a reservoir to be completely destroyed and around seventy people to lose their lives.
The walk first takes you through fields and then turns in to walk along the edge of the crater (do not try to venture into the crater itself, as there are warnings of potential unexploded bombs!). It then loops back to the beginning of the walk through more open farmland.
The pub at the start of the walk offers parking for customers, so if you park here please pop in for some refreshments after or before your walk.

Very interesting walk around the crater. The size of it is hard to comprehend. Start at the local pub. Easy walk through farm fields, mixture of sheep and cows.
We went in December 2023 with a 3 year old and 6 year old. It was very flat which surprised me as it was advertised as hilly. ......Fauld crater was interesting to see after researching the history. Other than the crater the walk is just through extremely muddy farmers fields. Its a nice walk if you live locally but i definitely wouldnt bother travelling to do the walk. ......We did go to the cock in for dinner after and the food was excellent.
Lovely short walk. Very easy going, shocking to see the size of the crater. Beautiful pub food at the end at the Cock Inn!
