Walk information
This first option is a short circular loop starts at Alton Village hall car park and takes you into Alton village and then out to open fields and farmland.
The walk crosses the river Churnet and proceeds on to the Old Railway line which is now a pretty track, after crossing the River Churnet again and passing through Crump Wood, the route takes you back over the river and fields towards Alton.

First-hand experiences
The walk is very pleasant but you have to cross a number of fields which either have crops or livestock in. The paths are poorly marked and you find yourself doubling back on yourself. There are no pubs open at the start of the walk at the beginning of the week, only on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and not at all during the day.

This second option is a pretty circular loop starts at Alton Village hall car park and takes you into Alton village and then out to open fields and farmland.
The walk crosses the river Churnet and proceeds on to the Old Railway line and takes you towards Crumpwood Weir.
The walk continues along the hedge lined track heading towards Alverton Hall before taking you back along the ancient Salterford Lane to Alton. There is a small amount of road walking through the village but most of the walk is countryside.

Descending through the wood down to the river was a bit tricky.
Paths a bit over grown in places, but that is probably because of the time of the year we walked it.
