This first route option is a lovely walk around the wonderful Rickmansworth Aquadrome park and nature reserve. You can expect lots of glimmering waterside walking, plenty of wildflife and a great cafe on the route.

This route will be quite busy on a sunny day, but the lakes are worth it and the paths are tarmac throughout so it's suitable for buggies and wheelchairs.

If you're coming into the Rickmansworth train station, there's a 1 km stroll through the town's pretty high street to get to the walk.

If you have a bit more time for your adventure, this second route is an extended version of the first walk.

You will of course get to enjoy the wheel-friendly lakeside walking and nice cafe from the first walk.

However, this option also heads further east giving you a much more peaceful walk along the pretty Ebury Way and then back along the wonderful Grand Union canal with it's long boat residents often surprising the walker-by with lovely decorations and quirky boat designs.

There's also an additional great little canal-side cafe on this this route that is open every day except Mondays and Tuesday.

This final route option is our ultimate walk around this beautiful area of the county and it will still enjoy the lakeside walking of the first route, as well as the canal-side adventure from the second route.

However, it will also then take you on a further loop of walking that takes you along more of the wonderful towpath and then through the Croxley Common Moor, where there's a gorgeous there and back detour along the River Gade to a great picnic spot with mini river beach.

We'd recommend you do this walk in a figure of 8 manner, so you alternate between sections of canal-side walking and the pretty tree-lined Ebury way.

Walker review

Where do I start. Plenty of parking at the Aquadome, even on a busy summer Saturday. Lots of families at the start but once you’re out the park and onto the canal it is lovely and peaceful. Really good mix of Agua and trees. You will need a hat as it is a lot in the sun. Was a really nice time. The best bit was so many baby animals. My favourite was the baby Coots (my favourite bird) :-) x

Walker review

Lovely walk with some shade but some bits are right in the sun on a hot day. Lots of geese!!
