Consall Nature Park sits in the wooded Churnet Valley in Staffordshire, close to Consall Forge. It is a pleasing mix of woodland, pools, river and canal, and the Churnet Valley Railway runs through the middle of it, so a steam train may well pass while you walk.

We have three circular routes here, ranging from a very short stroll to a longer walk with several moderate climbs. All of them start by Lawn Pool and take in the valley floor, where you will find the River Churnet, the Caldon Canal and Heron Pool, along with woods such as those of the RSPB Consall Wood reserve. The longer routes climb up through the trees past Tickle Bridge, the old lime kilns and the Devil's Staircase Path, and the Black Lion pub at Consall Forge is a useful stop for refreshments.

The short walk is ideal if you only have a little time, while the mid-length and long routes need a morning or afternoon and some decent footwear for the climbs. For more walks like these, take a look at the Staffordshire Walks app.
