Axbridge Walks & Route Map

A lovely short and varied walk around a small valley situated next to Axbridge.

The walk takes you through some open countryside with fantastic views and through Kings Wood which has a stunning display of wild garlic in the spring. You will follow the Strawberry Line for some of the walk which is a traffic free path stretching across some of Somerset.

You will pass a pub en route for refreshments. There is a small amount of road walking during the walk and a couple of busy road crossings, please take care.

If you have a little bit more time, then this second route is basically an extended version of the first.

It still enjoys the views of rolling hills and green pastures in the beautiful Somerset countryside, as well as the woodlands on the first route, but the extra distance first takes you on a walk to the north towards Winscombe and then back down to the south on the Strawberry Line, passing through Shute Shelve Tunnel, a 165 metre old disused railway tunnel which is home to bats and rare cave spiders!

As with the first route, there is a pub en route for refreshments. There is a small amount of road walking during the walk and a couple of busy road crossings, please take care.
