Cheddar Gorge walk 1
3.25 miles

If you fancy a walk that rewards you with spectacular views, Cheddar Gorge is a must. This 3.25-mile circular route isn’t just a hike — it’s a mini adventure.

Starting in the lovely village of Cheddar (yes, like the cheese), the trail quickly gets your legs working with a steep climb. But stick with it — once you’re at the top, the views across the dramatic limestone cliffs and rolling countryside are worth every bit of effort.

The path winds around the gorge, giving you a full-circle experience of this natural wonder. Expect rocky ground, sharp inclines, and a short stint alongside the road — so bring your good walking boots!

After your walk, Cheddar has plenty of pubs and cafés to refuel and soak it all in. Whether you're in it for the scenery, the exercise, or the post-walk bite to eat and drink, this walk delivers.

If you’d like to explore more of the area around Cheddar, why not take a look at our circular walk around Cheddar Reservoir which offers free parking right by the water and takes you on a scenic loop with stunning views over the water.

Amazing views along the Cheddar Gorge valley and over to Cheddar Reservoir.

These Cheddar Gorge goats were a bit of a surprise but very cute. The roam freely and are used to maintain the natural landscape by grazing and controlling the vegetation.

The path through woodland on the north side of the Cheddar Gorge walk. We walked the route anti-clockwise so it was a steep climb down to the village.

There’s a pretty pond in the middle of Cheddar Village.
