The second option is a lovely waterside stroll that heads in the opposite direction out of Stanstead St Margarets.

After strolling through the Stanstead Abbotts High Street, you'll embark on a nice walk along the River Lee Navigation until you reach the impressive bird watching platform in the Amwell Nature Reserve.

After that you'll cut across to visit the small village of Great Amwell with it's church and then head back to St Margarets along the lovely New River Path.

We always find it enjoyable walking around this area and this short walk is no exception. Great for dogs and mostly suitable for a buggy apart from the gate at Great Amwell. It just means you have to walk down Amwell Lane parallel with the New River instead of alongside it. Or, return the way you came, back along The River Lee which is pleasant enough to be repeated. We look forward to completing some more of the walks around here that are on the App

Beautiful walk along canal and back along the river. We stopped at the George VI pub in Great Amwell that isnt shown on the walk but had a lovely gin and tonic in the sun before heading back. Very good paths and to easy the Great Amwell Nature Reserve

Walker review

This is a lovely walk, we walked it with a pushchair easily apart from one bit where we had to avoid a stile and walk on the road which wasnt an issue at all. Great walk.

mostly buggy friendly except cor short flight of stairs going up to new river.

St Margarets Walk 3

The third route option is another waterside walk that's slightly longer than the second route. Like the second route, it enjoys stretches of walking along the River Lee Navigation and then back along the New River Path.

However, this walk instead heads in the opposite direction to the second route and the benefit of this option is it calls into Rye House where there is a train station and a pub.

This means you can half the length of this walk by walking one way and then catching the train back to St Margarets if you wish.

Of course, if you want an epic riverside walk, you could also complete walks 2 and 3 together to create one big walk, as they head in completely different directions.

This fourth walk option is a lovely and more varied route that starts with a peaceful stroll along the River Lee Navigation until you reach the impressive bird watching platform (take some binoculars for this!).

You'll then head north through countryside until you walk through the pretty Easneye wood and then embark on an adventure into more open countryside. This takes you along a section of the Hertfordshire Way, and you'll enjoy some nice views as you go.

Finally, you'll walk back to the village of Stanstead Abbots where there are a large selection of pubs and eateries available.

Another great walk with loads of variety. We loved the river and the viewing platform for the nature reserve. The trees and countryside in the middle section were beautiful. We appreciated the proper tracks for walking at this time of year.

This final walk option is basically a longer extended version of the second walk that takes you on a waterside amble to the north along the River Lee Navigation and back along the New River Path.

This longer route actually takes you all the way to Ware, where you'll discover some nice riverside pubs and a train station. This also means you can make this a station to station linear walk and catch the train back to St Margarets from Ware if you wish.
