The walk
Rye Meads Nature Reserve Walk
This is a wonderful short family-friendly walk from the Rye Meads Nature Reserve. It's definitely one to take your binoculars to as you'll walk around the lake that is packed full of wildlife and there are a number of hides for you to look out from. There are also nature activities for the kids to enjoy.
Important: You have to follow the route clockwise around the reserve as there is a one-way turnstile half way around the route. You also have to walk through the visitor centre at the start of the walk, which is open 9am-5pm and sells tea, coffee and lovely ice cream pots!
The reserve is free to enjoy, but there is a charge for parking if you are not an RSPB member. Please be aware that as this is a nature reserve full of beautiful birds, dogs are not allowed on the walk.

Pretty walk but make sure you walk it in the indicated direction.

An excellent family walk. If you’re interested in birds or just like open spaces, this is for you. A £4 car park charge is definitely worth it (free if you’re a RSPB member). The Nature Reserve is definitely accessible to buggies/wheelchairs. The full walk goes out through a one way turnstile. There is a gate that is locked there but can be opened with a code that you get from the Visitor Centre. This part was a little muddy (in January), no problem for boots.
