South Cerney Walk & Route Map

Great walk, mainly flat but not buggy- or wheelchair-friendly. A few stiles to negotiate (wooden and stone) and kissing gates. Could be quite muddy in places if wet. Uneven ground along by the old canal with many tree roots underfoot. Lots of shallow water for dogs (or humans!) to paddle. We refreshed ourselves at The Old George, which you pass at the start and end of the walk.

Half of it was completely flooded and the other half was a boggy marsh, do not try without wellies or bring a canoe

There are places with electric fences - be warned (expeciallywith free ranging dogs), they are live!

Its a nice woodland walk. The river had dried up, even though it was October, but there was lots of interesting elements to the walk....My only issue is regarding the description - it said about heading out towards the lakes and so I thought we would get to see quite a lot of the lakes on route. But most of them on this route are privately owned and are behind fences with barbed wire on the top!

The first half especially is lovely. A bit of narrow path between hedges that is a bit dull but it didn’t last long. Dog friendly and good pub at the end.

No good for reactive dogs, narrow paths and lots of off-lead dogs with no recall, apart from that great walk.
