Fairford is a charming Cotswold market town with beautiful stone buildings, riverside scenery and plenty of places to stop for food and drink along the way.

These walks explore Fairford and the surrounding countryside in different ways, from easy riverside strolls following the scenic River Coln to longer routes taking in peaceful fields, historic landmarks and quiet footpaths around the town.

This easy circular walk starts in the pretty market town of Fairford with it's typical cotswold stone houses, shops, church and pubs.

The walk starts from outside The Bull Hotel but there is a free car park at the top of the High Street too. After crossing the road onto Back Lane this will take you around the back of the town following the scenic River Coln before looping back around to the village. It's an easy, flat walk on solid paths.

There is some road walking along paths back to the start. There are plenty of places to stop for food and drink along the route.

Walker review

The first 1/3 is perfect for pushchairs or people who find walking more challenging. A few benches on this section to utilise. Very pretty. Could easily do this part and turn around and return to start. ......The Bull pub was lovely for a drink after. Very welcoming. ......Some parking outside The Bull. ......Will walk again.

Walker review

Nice quiet walk with a mix of river, fields and Cotswold buildings. Facilities in Fairford although we didn’t make use of them. Perfect for dogs, ours was offlead for around half the route.

The second walk from this pretty market town location takes you around the back of Fairford.

You will follow the road out of the High Street passing the attractive St Mary's church. The road leads you across Mill Bridge to the ancient oxpens where you will follow the footpath with the brook running alongside.

The footpath crosses the scenic River Coln and the waterworks and heads back across fields towards the start.

There is some road walking at the end without paths.

Walker review

A very pleasant and easy going walk. Mostly off road except towards the end as you headed back into town. We didn’t visit anywhere for food or drink but did pop into the Coln Galley which was a treasure trove of books, cards, stationery and art materials. Lovely couple of hours out and about.

Lovely walk alongside fields and lanes. Beautiful vistas over the river Frome

Nice walk through fields then back along the road. There’s a section on a road with no pavement but no cars passed us when we did the walk. Mostly on lead but lots of sniffs for dogs.

This is the longest walk starting from the centre of Fariford.

It takes you south through the town until you arrive at the pretty River Coln. From there, the route heads north west, following the river and passing through open countryside.

You'll cross a footbridge and continue back towards the town, skirting the edges of Farford Park. The walk concludes just past St. Mary's Church, returning you to the starting point, where a selection of pubs awaits for a well-deserved refreshment.

Walker review

Great walk in and around Fairford. First part or the walk is very accessible although close to river. Latter parts are across fields so can be a bit muddy. Last section down the road not too exciting but good pubs in the village.

Love the stretches along the rivers. Beautiful clear water with fish, ducklings and cygnets. The parking in fairford was easy and free. Be aware that part of the route is closed on a tuesday (thats what a sign said).

Lovely flat walk. There are a a few gates / stiles which makes it difficult to take a pushchair but if there are two adults you could lift the pushchair over. There were cows in the fields which were lovely to see. Lovely river and a couple of good pubs.
