Walk description

Birdlip Viewpoint and pub walk
6.5 miles

This is a long and strenuous pub walk adventure from the pretty village of Birdlip. You'll need a lot of energy on this one as you head out into the hilly area of woodlands and open countryside that you'll find between Birdlip and Great Witcombe. Aside from the hilly Witcombe Wood and the lovely pub in the village, you'll also visit the Witcombe Reservoirs for some waterside walking and the gorgeous Birdlip Viewpoint, making this a very varied walk that's well worth all the effort.

Strenuous walk with a very of quite steep sections. Amazing views from the viewpoint. The Royal William at Birdlup is a beautiful country pub with a very good, varied menu.

Long and enjoyable walk. About half way, as you come out of the woods, the path is not so clear and there is an extremely steep stretch. Some great views from the top of the hill.

Great walk considering I live near by. One section of the walk doesnt follow the correct path, but its only a small section.

Bottom half boggy when wet.

We undertook the walk after a deluge of rain so understandably muddy and slippy in places but it was all passable. A couple of the stiles could have been avoided as there were alternative routes around the field. There were horses loose in a couple fields we had to walk through. Some stiles would have been tough with a large and less than nimble dog. The second half was a very challenging, but nevertheless rewarding, hill.

Certainly strenuous with the long steep uphill section at the end. Worth it for the variety and to see remains of Roman villa. Slightly spoiled by road noise in much of second half. Would work any time of year.

Great views very dog friendly serious hill climbing.
