The walk
Cranham Common and Saltridge Wood
This lovely walk begins at Cranham Common and takes you through a mix of landscapes, from scenic views to peaceful woodland trails. Starting with a stroll down a quiet country lane, you'll pass the charming St James Church before following the pretty Painswick Stream.
From there, the route loops around and climbs into the wonderful Saltridge Wood, where you'll enjoy nature all around. The walk continues past a series of beautiful lakes before bringing you back to where you started.
For a little extra, we've added an optional extension to the Black Horse Inn, perfect for a refreshing drink to finish your journey.

6/5/26 - extremely pleasant walk around the Cranham area.If doing the walk mid-week suggest parking at the pub car park in Cranham (only a couple of mins from the start), as parking at the start by the school is limited.

Some fantastic autumn colours in the woods. We did it clockwise but i think it would be better done anticlockwise especially if like us you take a flask and butties. There are benches with great views down the valley onthe edge of the woods. But stopping there was too early for us and we ended up sat in the church yard at the end of the walk. Which was still nice ( especially with inquisitive visits from a very friendly robin ). But I’d have preferred the view from the woods.

A walk with a bit of everything. Streams, lakes and waterfalls, woodland, farmland and stunning views. Lots of flat, well maintained pathways and a few short inclines. Some nice benches on route to sit and enjoy the views. We had to walk through one field of cows. There is one section just as you head into the woods where the map wants you to go left and the only way is off a clear route and up a slope into the wood. Keep going up the path and there is an obvious left turn a few minutes ahead and you will be back on the right route. A lovely, lovely walk.

We did this walk on a wet foggy day, i love taking pictures of funghi, and there were lots along the route. We are planning to do this one again on a sunny day, so we can take in the lovely views we glimpsed through the mist. Perfect mix of water, woodland and open views

Muddy at the moment due to the weather over the last couple of days, would be great for the dogs in the summer. A couple of quiet roads to walk along but great walk for our cocker. A great addition to the walks app.
