Combs Edge Walks & Route Maps

This short but adventurous walk explores the rugged gritstone edges above Combs Reservoir on the western edge of the Peak District.

The route crosses the high ground around Short Edge and Combs Edge, where rough grass, heather, and weathered rock outcrops shape the landscape.

There are very steep sections with rocky uneven ground and cliff edges in places.

If you have more time for your adventure, this longer walk explores more of the dramatic gritstone ridges above Combs Reservoir, stretching across a series of high edges on the western side of the Peak District.

The route crosses ground around Short Edge and Black Edge before dipping into the quieter valley of Flint Clough. The walk then climbs back onto the high moorland around Combs Head and Combs Edge, where rocky outcrops and rough grassland define the landscape.

Expect plenty of ascents and descents, along with very steep, uneven rocky sections and exposed edges in places, so please take care at all times.
