We don't normally feature linear 'there-and-back' routes, but this is such a pleasant little stroll that we thought it was a worthy walk to enjoy in both directions.

After a short walk through the village you'll then enter a section of woodland where you have the running river to your left and in the spring, a wonderful display of both bluebells and the white wild garlic on your right. (Please do not venture off the footpath on this section to protect the display!)

After this the heads off into the heart of the beautiful Woodhall Park where you can enjoy some peaceful views over the estate, before turning around and heading back.

Its a lovely walk but if you have a big dog be warned the metal kissing gate is very narrow big dogs may struggle mine went through but couldn’t get back so we had to find another way.

This second route option is a longer circular route for those of you with a bit more time to explore this delightful area of Hertfordshire countryside.

The walk starts by following the linear route from the first walk option, and as we mentioned above the bluebell and wild garlic display on this stretch of walking is truly delightful in the spring.

After that, you'll embark on a lovely countryside loop with extra sections of woodland, a visit to the small village of Chapmore End where there is a lovely little village pub to enjoy and then a long walk alongside the River Beane to get back to Stapleford.

As well as the springtime bluebell and wild garlic display to the north of the start point, there is also a spectacular poppy display in the fields just to the south of Foxleys wood in the early summer (around June time usually). If you only want to see this, you can follow this route anticlockwise instead for a short there-and-back walk option.

Midway pub opens at 4 pm. Lovely walk, mixture of woodland, fields and walk by the river. Wild garlic and bluebell plantations are stunning. We misses one of the turns so ended up in some place, looking like old sand quarry or something. Map guided us back on track. ...Totally enjoyed the walk. Thank you.

A fabulous route wich is better enjoyed in April and May for the bluebells and wild garlic.Lots of fields with sweeping views and country lanes for shade.The pub in Chapmore End is a great half way point refresher stop off for lunch toilets and a cold one.

The footpath marked on the route across the north of Bardon Clumps was impassable due to flooding so we detoured around the south of the wood and it was lovely and dry.

This third option is a truly wonderful and varied adventure that fully explores this lovely region of Hertfordshire Countryside.

Like the second route, it also enjoys the various springtime and summertime flower displays, woodlands, peaceful countryside, rivers and the pub in the charming small village of Chapmore End.

However, this option extends that route and also heads further to the north to follow the footpath through the gorgeous Woodhall Park where the Heath Mount School is located, and then heads back to join the second route along a quiet country lane.

Like the second route, this walk also also calls in on the beautiful poppy fields that you can enjoy in the early summer.

Please Note: The section through Woodhall Park is stunningly beautiful, but it is not without its perils. After you walk through the park, you have to climb a steep staircase over a wall (so its not suitable for dogs or less able walkers).

After the wall, there is then a short section of walking that can be little bit overgrown. We did it in shorts with no problems, but longer trousers might be advised.

Finally, there is a section of walking along a road after that, but it was very quiet when we walked it. These are only minor perils, but all worth it for some of the beautiful stretches on this walk.

I enjoyed this walk very much for the second time. Plenty of places to park. Varied. Fields, woods, wide paths, rivers. Quite a few stretches on quiet roads. Bench about half way where I sat and enjoyed my breakfast egg sarnie and coffee.

Did this walk two days ago Well I thought I had but actually did walk 2!! Hence my comments. However walk 3 was glorious. Lots of variety. Woods. Fields. Paths. Rivers. There is a very high wall with wooden steps. Not great for dogs although my small spaniel did manage it. Could be very muddy after heavy rain. ...

Glorious walk. Everything you could want from a walk. Could be very muddy after rain. Do not remember Woodhall Park nor the steep steps!! Will have to do the walk again and be more observant. Think it may only be 4.5 to 5 miles according to my step count and the time it took me. But loved it!
