This first route option is a wonderful little family-friendly walk that explores the pretty village of Watton-at-Stone.

You'll stroll through the Lammas nature field that has a glistening shallow stream and is full of the sounds of wildlife, before walking through a pretty little twisted woodland path that is full of enchanting bluebells in the spring. (When we passed, there was a great rope swing for the kids to play on at the end of that section)

After that, you'll then enjoy a walk through the Jubilee Wood meadows and woodland, passing a wonderful little section where you can visit the River Beane for a paddle, before emerging at the far end of the village where you can visit the war memorial and climb up to the pretty church.

This second option (the orange route) is a wonderfully varied adventure in the gorgeous undulating countryside that you'll find between Watton-at-Stone and Stapleford.

You'll head through the village before climbing up to visit the pretty church.

After that, you'll head out into some lovely countryside with majestic views over the Heath Mount School to your left before carefully crossing the road and entering into the delightful Woodhall Park Estate.

Within the estate, you'll enjoy a walk through the Stapleford Meadows alongside the River Beane and then you'll pass through the Clusterbolt Woods that has a stunning display of Bluebells and Wild Garlic in the spring before emerging out into the village of Stapleford.

Finally, you'll cross back over the road, follow a permissive path alongside a rapeseed field full of deep yellows in the spring, and then follow a long track that takes you back towards Watton-at-Stone enjoying beautiful views as you go.

Walker review

A really nice walk that we did anti clockwise so you get the riverside walks to finish the route. A busy road to cross a couple of times to be aware of.

This third option (the red-dotted route) is basically an extension to the second route for those of you with a bit more time and energy for your walk.

It enjoys everything from the second route in and around the wonderful countryside between Watton-at-Stone and Stapleford. However, instead of following the track back towards the start, this route takes you further to the west and climbs up into the majestic Bramfield Woods where you'll find more bluebells in the spring and then enjoy some great views on the way back down.

Please note that the added woodland section on this route can get a bit muddy in places in wet weather, so please wear appropriate footwear.

Really enjoyable, varied walk around the Woodhall Estate. Some great views, feels well off beaten track in places and great sandwiches to-go in recommended cafe for a mid-way picnic. Nearer 2.5hrs than 3.5 in good conditions.
