Great Ashby Park Walks & Route Maps

I chose this walk for a friend who was visiting with a dog - based on the Facebook reviews on Hertfordshire Walks and it was spot on. The dog loved the freedom and we really enjoyed the paths through the wood. Despite it being ‘mud month’ it was not too muddy on this route. The views of the countryside were lovely so definitely doing the longer walk in the spring.

The tarmac path was not level and was difficult to walk side by side

Took the buggy and it was fine along the tarmac paths but a bit trickier on the pathways through the woods. Would recommend baby wearing rather than pushchairs!

This walk takes you around Great Ashby Park mainly through the lovely woods. It was a good cool walk that took about an hour. I enjoyed the walk and so did my dog, Chip.

Lovely walk, although i dont think this walk would be totally suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs, a lot of the park is surfaced so you could have an enjoyable walk with pushchairs or wheelchairs

My friend and I did this walk today. Was the first walk using the app and we will definitely be doing more.

Great Ashby Park is a great place to take children as it has a good playground and is pushchair friendly. The surrounding woods are excellent for dog walking. The actual walk itself was very pleasant and with a few hills to get your heart going. The walk to and from Walkern was OK but nothing too exciting. Didn’t get to try out the White Lion Pub but did visit the picturesque St Mary’s church (supposedly the oldest village church in Hertfordshire). Only slight problem on the walk is a fallen tree blocking a path in Pryor’s Wood (after just under a mile). Although it’s easy to keep in the right direction using the Hertfordshire Walks App.

Picked up this walk in Walkern as it’s nearer my home. Nice wide paths at first. Lots of paths in the park itself so able to make the walk longer or shorter. Could be very muddy after heavy rain.

Great walk and we went to The Mulberry cafe in Walkern which is just 5min off route but definitely recommend this as a stop.

Good free parking .Route started well but unfortunately once off the path it became really slippery and boggy which spoilt the walk. Route was also a little hard to navigate at times but app ensured we didn't get lost. Not sure if i would do this walk again, the views were very nice but it lacked points of interest.

Wonderful walk, one of the best and only a mile from my home. Would recommend the Brewery Tea Shop Cafe in Walkern. Tasty home made cakes, scones and light lunches. A real gem. Good parking facilities at the start but a little difficult to find as at the end of road through residential area. Highly recommended walk.

Just completed this walk and really enjoyed it. Lots of paths initially so the map was needed. Coming up the hill from Walkern is a nice bench where you will get a lovely view. Nice place to picnic. Varied scenery too.
