From short, family-friendly loops through the woodland and past Gibbet Hill, to longer routes that extend out into rolling farmland and nearby villages, these walks offer plenty of variety, with something to suit a quick outing or a full countryside adventure.

This first walk is a short but hilly family-friendly walk around the gorgeous woodlands of the Weston Hills nature reserve.

The adults will no doubt enjoy the pretty woodlands, the kids will enjoy the numerous rope swings dotted around the walk, and everyone will enjoy the beautiful Gibbet Hill that you'll pass on your left on the second half of the walk. We havn't taken the route through Gibbet Hill as it's sometimes closed off for sheep grazing, but if it's gates are not locked, feel free to explore on your way around.

As mentioned, expect a few ups and downs on this route, and it might get a bit slippery when really wet, so please take appropriate footwear if things are soggy.

This second option (the orange route) is for those of you that want to explore the lovely hilly woodlands of the Weston Hills Nature Reserve, but also want some open countryside walking and pretty views on your walk.

The walk initially climbs up into the woodlands of Weston Hills, but then escapes out onto a long loop of walking through the undulating countryside between Baldock and Weston.

After enjoying that stretch of walking and it's views, you'll then re-enter the woodlands of the nature reserve and visit Gibbet Hill within the woodlands that you can explore if it's not locked up.

If you really want to stretch your legs and explore this wonderful area of peaceful countryside, then this third walk option (the red-dotted route) is a great long adventure that further extends the second walk.

It enjoys the Weston Hills nature reserve and the undulating countryside from the second route, but it also heads further to the south and actually visits the village of Weston where you'll find a lovely pub for refreshments.

After this, it heads north through more peaceful countryside until you reach the tiny village of Clothall with it's pretty church, and then you'll head off on a long walk back to Weston Hills through gorgeous sweeping countryside with lovely views as you walk.

Walker review

Very enjoyable walk. A couple of fields were ploughed so had to skirt the edges but not a problem. Traffic noise for first half an hour and last twenty minutes. Dad to out dog on lead a couple of times. Very very wet and muddy after all rhe rain we have had. Had to wade through water upto an inch below my wellies at one point towards some steep steps. All good fun though. Enjoy

Walker review

Lovely walk with wonderful views, a great pub (the Cricketers as the Red Lion is now closed), two ancient churches and assorted picturesque old houses on route. Will definitely be doing this again.
