Old Hall Marshes Walks & Route Maps

This first walk explores the wide, open landscapes of Old Hall Marshes, a coastal reserve shaped by tidal creeks, grazing marsh and big estuary views.

Old Hall Creek and the Salcott Channel weave through the marsh, their tidal waters revealing mudflats that attract waders and wildfowl.

Along the edge, the River Blackwater opens out into a broad estuary, reinforcing the strong connection between land and sea.

If you have a lot more time and energy for your walk, then this much longer route is an epic adventure around the entirety of Old Hall Marshes offering a deeper immersion into this lovely area of Essex's coastal landscape.

Saltmarshes, grazing fields and tidal channels stretch out beneath big Essex skies and Old Hall Creek and the Salcott Channel cut through the marsh. Alongside, the River Blackwater broadens into a quiet estuary, reinforcing the ever-present link between land and sea.

It’s an unspoilt, spacious walk, but it's also very long, so please make sure your phone is fully charged before setting off and only use the navigation when absolutely necessary.
