Finchingfield Walks & Route Maps

Finchingfield is a wonderful gem of a village in the heart of the Essex countryside. It's worth a visit just to enjoy a drink in the village pub itself, but this first route also lets you explore the pretty countryside around the village.

After enjoying the village, the first section of the walk takes you up a very quiet country lane for a while before emerging out into some pretty countryside for some peaceful walking.

There is then a little detour to an interesting old water mill, before heading back up to Finchingfield along the Finchingfield Brook.

The path alongside the brook can get a bit overgrown at times. Even though this isn't too bad, long trousers are recommended. If you want to avoid this and have time, we'd recommend walking the longer route instead.

This second route is a longer adventure that fully explores the pretty countryside between the villages of Finchingfield and Great Bardfield.

As with the first route, it heads off along a very quite country lane for a while before enjoying some peaceful countryside and visiting the water mill.

This route then instead heads into the village of Great Bardfield itself where there is another pub stop option, before heading back to Finchingfield through more pretty open countryside.
