These walks around the picturesque village of Castle Hedingham in Essex are perfect for enjoying the countryside at a relaxed pace.

The shorter route takes you through the village streets and quiet country lanes, with a stop at a lovely local pub, making it ideal for a gentle day out.

The longer route stretches further into the surrounding farmland and woodland, with a visit to the nearby village of Great Maplestead and a short, careful section along a busy road.

Both walks can be rounded off with refreshments at The Bell Inn or The Old Moot House, Tea Rooms and Bistro, and you could also take the opportunity to explore Hedingham Castle if time allows.

This is a wonderful pub walk in and around the idyllic village of Castle Hedingham.

The walk strolls through the pretty village itself, and then heads north on a loop through nice open countryside and quiet country lanes. There is also a lovely pub in the village to make this walk a perfect day out.

If you have time, you could also explore the Hedingham Castle when you are in the village. There is a fee for entry and it's only open certain hours of the day, so check their website for details.

A lovely walk over fields mostly with great views. Even better is the pub with delicious pub food, great beers and a warm welcome to people and dogs! The Bell was a great place to start!

This walk at this time of year was not enjoyable! I am sure in the summer this will be a beautiful walk but some of the footpaths were so muddy I struggled to walk. If you do this walk you definitely need wellies!

Very pleasant Easter Sunday walk in the countryside. Lovely village and church. We enjoyed ending the walk in the Bell pub. Nice menu.

Really enjoyable walk, very peaceful with mainly just bird song to be heard with the reward of a beautiful village at the end (and beginning) and an excellent pub in The Bell. Lovely drinks and really good menu on offer. Would definitely do this again the route was spot on and lovely to see Hedingham castle from the peaceful fields. Would really like to see more walks added to the app as paying for a subscription service.

Nice easy Sunday walk - dog loved it. Few issues across a farmers field but if you stick to the marked route you will be ok...and The Wheatsheaf Pub at the end was awesome!

This second route is the one for you if you want to stretch your legs and enjoy an epic walking adventure in the countryside surrounding Castle Hedingham.

The route is mainly made up of peaceful walking through open farmland, a couple of woodland sections and a visit to the villages of Great Maplestead.

There is a short 200m section of walking alongside a busy road on the route, so please be careful here.

Walker review

Lovely walk across farmland and through some picturesque villages, and we were lucky enough to see three Muntjac deer. Be warned there is some woolly livestock on route as well as some short stretches of road without footpaths.
