This walk is an easy and varied countryside ramble from Stanton by Dale, with just one short climb and plenty of peaceful scenery to enjoy.
This walk passes Furnace Pond, wanders through fields and farm lanes to Dale Abbey and Hermit’s Wood, before looping back through gentle woodland and open countryside.

The walk
Stanton by Dale Walk
This easy-going walk only has one short climb and takes you from the contrasting edge of a busy industrial area to relaxing gentle undulating countryside, in no time at all.
The walk travels past Furnace Pond, through pleasant fields and along farm lanes to the lovely village of Dale Abbey with its unusual church. If you have time you can explore Hermit's Wood an ancient woodland with its own Hermit's Cave.
After exploring, find your way back to the route and on to Boyah Grange before following paths through fields and woodland back to the town. There are some short stretches of road with no pavement where care is needed.

Not suitable for big dogs unless they can jump

In hermits wood take the high path to the right unless you want to see the cave. On the outbound section of the walk from hermits wood after you’ve crossed the lane you need to you the stile in the left hand hedge to stay on the route.
