Poppy Wood Walks & Route Maps

This short walk explores Poppy Wood which is part of the National Forest - a long-term project transforming former industrial and farmland across parts of Derbyshire, Leicestershire, and Staffordshire into new woodland and green spaces.

Paths wind through young trees and open clearings typical of many National Forest sites, where newly planted woodland continues to grow and mature over time.

It’s a peaceful little route that offers a glimpse of how this landscape is gradually being reshaped into a larger, connected forest.

This longer walk explores more of the developing woodland landscape within this section of the National Forest.

Starting around Poppy Wood, the route takes you through the areas of young trees and open countryside that are gradually transforming former industrial and farmland into new forest.

After exploring Poppy Wood, the walk then takes you on an additional loop that passes through Robin Wood, another part of this growing network of woodland and footpaths.
