Darley Park Walks & Route Maps

This short walk offers a relaxed loop through Darley Park, one of Derby’s best-loved green spaces.

The route follows stretches of the River Derwent, whose waters once powered the cotton mills that helped shape the Derwent Valley during the Industrial Revolution.

A café in the park provides a handy spot to pause for a drink or snack, rounding off this easy-going stroll through one of Derby’s most scenic parks.

This alternative longer route around Darley Park adds a touch of history to the riverside setting of the first route.

As well as enjoying the park itself, this route crosses the elegant Handyside Bridge, an iron footbridge built by the Derby engineering firm of Andrew Handyside in the late 19th century.

The route also follows more of the River Derwent and takes you past Darley Abbey Mills, a complex of water-powered cotton mills from the Industrial Revolution.
