Kedleston Park Walk and Route Map

Kedleston Park lies about four miles north-west of Derby, around Kedleston Hall, the neo-classical mansion built in the 1760s to designs by Robert Adam for Nathaniel Curzon. The National Trust looks after around 800 acres of parkland here, laid out by Adam with sweeping views, lakes and a scattering of follies, and it makes a fine setting for an easy day out on foot.

We have two circular walks on the Derbyshire Walks app, both starting by the Hall and its cafe. The shorter walk, at 3.5 miles, follows the lake, takes in woodland paths and crosses open parkland, passing All Saints' Church, the Hermitage, Cutler Brook and Bottom Covert on the way.

The longer walk, at 5.8 miles, ranges further across the estate. It passes the Lion's Mouth fountain and the Boathouse near the start, follows Blind Brook and Cutler Brook with a good stretch beside the lake, and returns by the thatched Hermitage and the old church. Both walks are gentle by Derbyshire standards, though the longer one has a steady climb in the middle.
