With its duck pond, stone cottages and famous cheese shop, Hartington is a delightful base for these walks into the heart of the Dove Valley.

One route leads you through the stunning limestone scenery of Beresford Dale, Wolfscote Dale and Biggin Dale, following the gentle curves of the River Dove where wildflowers and butterflies flourish in summer.

The other of the walks heads north across rolling farmland towards Pilsbury and the earthworks of Pilsbury Castle, offering big views and a touch of medieval history.

With a few steady climbs, uneven ground and stiles along the way, these walks are wonderfully varied - and perfectly rounded off with the many cafés and pubs waiting back in the village.

Hartington is a pretty little village with charming cottages, an idyllic pond and is home to a wonderful cheese shop selling delicious locally made cheeses.

This stunning walk takes you over fields and into the beautiful Beresford Dale and Wolfscote Dale on a path that runs alongside the River Dove. The river meanders slowly over a succession of tiny weirs to the Pike Pool.

The route then returns passing through the steep-sided Biggin Dale, part of which is a National Nature Reserve.

Wild flowers are profuse in the summer and attract large numbers of butterflies and other insects. The final section of the walk is on quiet lanes back into the village. Wonderful.

There is one longish climb, some uneven ground and stiles. There are also many cafes, pubs and shops in the village

Very enjoyable walk.Very easy first half through Beresford and Wolvercote dales but then tougher second half over rocky outcropped path....Lovelly view of Hartington church on the approach back to the village....Took us 2 hours....Hartington was heaving on arrival back there....If you park in the village car park it is £2 for 24 hours. I would take coins as the wifi signal was non existent in the car park.

Great walk but got tougher as you finish on an uphill climb on rocky surface

Brilliant lap starting in the lovely village of Hartington. It starts out with a steady climb up a grassy hill. There are a fee cows roaming free at the start but they didn’t even look our way. The walk then heads out along the river Dove, following a brilliant riverside path. Our dog loved going in and out of the river- if your dog is less trustworthy, you may need to keep them on the lead as the river was fast flowing! Brilliant views throughout the walk. Bit muddy and boggy in parts and rocky in others but we enjoyed it overall! Lovely pub at the end in the Devonshire Arms.

Overall really enjoyable, very stoney from the half way point, so sturdy footwear is a must. Also 2.5 hours is unrealistic, with a 20 minute stop for a rest it took us over 4 hours all in. Will definitely go back in the future

Lovely walk but make sure you wear sturdy shoes/boots toilet facilities and shops cafes etc at the start in the village but nothing on route overall a very enjoyable walk

This walk starts from the very pretty village of Hartington with its charming cottages, an idyllic pond and a wonderful cheese shop selling delicious locally made cheeses. Try the stilton - delightful.

The walk heads north and explores the wonderful Derbyshire countryside in the upper Dove Valley. The route takes you past the tiny village of Pilsbury and onto Pilsbury Castle, one of the finest examples of a motte and Bailey castle in Derbyshire (only the earthworks are visible now).

There are a couple of steep hills to climb on this walk and descents may be slippery in wet weather. To recharge your batteries there are many cafes, pubs and shops in the village
