Dragons Back Walks & Route Maps

This short but hilly walk explores the rolling limestone countryside around Hollins Hill in the White Peak.

From the higher ground, there are views across to the distinctive limestone ridges of Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill, together known as the “Dragon’s Back.”

The walk also passes near Hollinsclough Chapel Hall, where a small café offers a welcome spot to pause before or after exploring this dramatic patch of Derbyshire countryside.

Expect a few steep inclines and uneven ground along the way.

If you want to actually tackle the Dragons Back hills, then this longer and very hilly walk takes on a big loop that enjoys both peaks.

Starting in the rolling farmland around Hollins Hill, the route soon reaches the dramatic limestone ridges that give the walk its name.

Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill together form the famous “Dragon’s Back,” a narrow, jagged ridge rising steeply from the surrounding pasture.

The walk finishes near Hollinsclough Chapel Hall, where a small café offers a welcome place to pause after tackling this memorable stretch of Peak District hills.

The terrain here includes some very steep sections and rough ground, making this a more challenging hike.
