Highdown Gardens & Hill Walks & Route Maps

Our first walk is short and centred on Highdown Gardens, a distinctive chalk garden created in the early 20th century by Sir Frederick Stern.

Winding paths lead through carefully curated planting, blending horticultural history with a calm green atmosphere.

The walk is then a short loop that finishes near The Highdown, providing an easy-going end to this garden stroll on the edge of Worthing and the South Downs.

The second walk option expands the experience beyond the gardens themselves.

It begins at Highdown Gardens, created in the early 20th century by Sir Frederick Stern within a former chalk pit, with rare and unusual plants.

The route then loops around and climbs Highdown Hill, part of the South Downs and crowned by the earthworks of an Iron Age hillfort.

From the ridge, wide views stretch across the coastal plain.

The walk returns near The Highdown, where walkers can stop at a traditional pub and restaurant for refreshments.
