Cannock Chase is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the heart of Staffordshire, packed with woodland walks, wonderful wildlife and glorious walks for all abilities.
This first walk is an easy circular route that starts at the visitor centre and takes you through the forest and around Fairoak Pools which are small lakes in the middle of the woods.

Loved the short walk around the chase, lovely scenery and dog friendly.
Really enjoyed this route. Lovely pools to look at, some stepping stones, wasn’t busy at all and took an hour to walk. As i’m only just starting out to walk every day, the last half was up a hill and it was a killer. Would do it again and recommend this route.

The route heads north west towards Sherbrook Valley and includes woodland paths, hills and a wander beside a pretty brook.

Great route modified it slightly as the heavens opened but not bad.

Lovely walk through Cannock Chase Forest. Very quiet and secluded. Good to let the dog off and not worry.

This is our longest Cannock Chase walk and it's an epic trek with a bit of everything.
It includes woodland, lakes, wildlife, hills, roads and lots of glorious Staffordshire countryside to enjoy.
It's a long and strenuous hike so please go prepared with the appropriate clothing and refreshments.

Just challenging enough and some beautiful scenery. One section is along a road which in places has no footpath or verge, but the road didnt seem busy.
We (young and fit, but not walkers) managed it in 2h 45. A few (4?) fairly challenging climbs. Very glad to have the app as it helped when there were lots of overlapping paths. Not a big fan of the extended walk down the main road near the end.
Enjoyed this, I did it in 3 hours without stopping for a break.
Have done this walk several times now, including in the winter and after a lot of rainfall and still love it. Waterproof walking boots are a must in these conditions though. There are four climbs that might be a challenge for someone that isn’t used to walking long distances. Highly recommended if you are a regular walker or someone that is looking to push themselves a little.
Lovely walk. If you do the walk clockwise there is a grass area with a picnic bench at mile 4, and at mile 7 you arrive at Birches Valley Forest Centre and Go Ape where there are toilets, picnic benches and a cafe. The distance shown on the app (8.75 miles) is accurate and the estimated 4 hour walk time is also pretty acurate. Actual walking time for us was 3:43 and total time including stops was 4:29.
Great walk on a beautiful April day. Dog off lead for most of it. Had to detour due to forestry activity however there are lots of paths so not really a problem, although I was surprised to clock nearly 11 miles on the OS app.
