The longer walk offers even more to explore, including a stretch of the Monarch’s Way, a climb along the East Mendip Way, and the site of an ancient Iron Age hillfort at King’s Castle Wood.

Walk information
A beautiful walk starting just outside Wells Cathedral. This walk takes you past the cathedral and the Bishops palace, a medieval palace that has been in England's smallest city for 800 years and is surrounded by a moat.
You can buy tickets if you wish to walk the palace gardens. Our walk carries past the palace to open fields and a circular walk around the surrounding countryside.

The second walk is an extended version of Walk 1, offering more to explore. You'll pass by the stunning Wells Cathedral and enjoy the surrounding countryside.
The route includes part of the Monarch's Way, a climb up to the East Mendip Way, and takes you past King's Castle and King's Castle Wood, the site of an ancient Iron Age hillfort.
