If you want a much shorter and easier walk which still takes in the awesome feeling of walking through the Valley of the Rocks and beautiful views from the South West Coast Path, then this is the perfect choice. From the car park it is an easy walk through the valley and a shorter walk along the coast path before returning back to your start point. It is just a short drive into Lynton where you can visit both this pretty town and the even more attractive Lynmouth to enjoy some amazing attractions in the area famously named as ‘The Little Switzerland’.

Valley of the Rocks Walk 2

Whilst this walk is much shorter and less strenuous than Walk 3 it is still very beautiful and will promise some amazing views. Starting from the car park its an easy stroll along the quiet road through the Valley of the Rocks and then onto the South West Coast Path which provides some exhilarating walking and stunning views. This shorter walk could give you more time to enjoy your time in Lynton and Lynmouth and its many attractions - the world-famous cliff railway, the Glen Lyn Gorge and of course the wonderful inn, The Rising Sun.  Or, you could just sit and watch the boats coming and going whilst enjoying some award winning fish and chips.

Valley of the Rocks Walk 3
8 km

This route can be challenging in parts, but the variety and stunning views make it well worth the effort.

The walk begins with a steep climb through enchanting woodland. As you emerge, you'll be greeted by breathtaking views of the coast and Lynton. The path winds through vibrant gorse and heather, offering spectacular scenery along the way. You'll then descend through more woodland to reach the South West Coast Path, passing by Lee Abbey, a Christian Community & Retreat Centre set in 280 acres of beautiful grounds.

The coastal path towards Lynton is awe-inspiring, with a beautiful valley, striking rock formations, and dramatic views. While most of this section is on smooth tarmac, there are steep drops without barriers, so care is needed.

Lynton, a charming town perched atop a hill, is linked to the picturesque Lynmouth by the world-famous cliff railway—one of the oldest and steepest water-powered railways in the world. Take the ride down to Lynmouth, explore the quaint shops, enjoy river views, and visit Glen Lyn Gorge. This area is often called 'Little Switzerland' for its steep hills, deep woodlands, river gorges, and rugged trails.

In Lynmouth, why not try The Rising Sun, a historic 14th-century inn with stunning sea views, known for its locally sourced food and friendly service.

The final stretch of the walk takes you from Lynton with an initial climb, followed by an easy stroll through woodland around Hollerday Hill, leading back to the car park.
