Rainham Dock Walks & Route Maps

This short route takes you around Rainham Dock, once part of a lively working riverside.

Now it is a much quieter place, with broad estuary views and wide skies replacing the bustle of shipping.

At low tide, mudflats stretch out to meet the water, and wading birds can sometimes be spotted feeding along the edges.

It’s a little walk that blends history and nature in one calm corner of the river.

This longer route begins at Rainham Dock and takes you further along the coast and into Riverside Country Park, part of a protected estuary landscape rich with birdlife, saltmarsh, and shifting tides.

Further along lies Sharp’s Green Bay, a sheltered inlet alive with wading birds feeding on the tidal mud.

The walk then reaches Horrid Hill, a rocky headland with sweeping estuary views and traces of its industrial past.

Finally, the route ends back at the park, where the café offers a relaxed place to pause after a walk through history, wildlife, and ever-changing coastal scenery.
