Margate East Walks & Route Maps

This short Margate route is a lovely mix of green space and sweeping coastal scenery along and back along the coast.

Along the way you'll enjoy a gentle loop through The Oval Gardens, a sheltered patch of lawns and flowerbeds that feels like a calm retreat just steps from the sea.

From there, the walk leads along the coast and back, passing the Waypole Bay Tidal Pool, one of Thanet’s classic sea pools where the tide creates a natural, ever-changing swimming spot.

The route finishes along the sands of Waypole Bay itself, a quiet, open beach with rock pools and big skies - the perfect place to pause and enjoy the sea air before heading back.

This longer Margate route basically explores more of this lovely coast and its wild headlands.

As with the first route, it takes you along the coast and around a loop of the The Oval Gardens, a peaceful green space near the seafront. It then heads out to Foreness Point, where low tide reveals chalk flats and rock pools under the big skies.

From here, the walk follows the Thanet Coastal Path along the clifftops, with sweeping views across the bays. It passes the nostalgic Waypole Bay Tidal Pool, then finishes along the quiet sands of Waypole Bay itself - a wide, open beach where the light and tide are always shifting, making it a perfect spot to pause before heading back.
