Around Kearsney Abbey Gardens, the routes pass elegant lakes, flowing streams, and well-kept parkland, making it an enjoyable place for an easy stroll at any time of year.
The longer of the walks heads further out into the surrounding valley, exploring open commons and grassy landscapes beyond the gardens.
With peaceful surroundings, plenty of natural scenery, and the option to stop at The Fox afterwards, these walks offer a relaxed escape into one of east Kent’s most attractive parkland settings.

This first option is a short stroll that explores the landscaped gardens of Kearnsey Abbey, where the River Dour winds through open lawns and tree-lined paths.
The Abbey Gardens are home to elegant lakes, restored bridges, and mature trees that change character with the seasons - from spring blossom to autumn colour.

This second option is a longer and more strenuous walk that links the elegant parkland of the Abbey Gardens with the wider green spaces of the Dour Valley.
The route passes through The Minnis and Scotland Common, both former grazing lands that now provide open views, wildflowers, and a real sense of space beyond the formal gardens.
Towards the end, you will find The Fox, a local pub where you can pause and enjoy the calm, rural feel of this varied corner of Dover’s countryside.
