The walk
The Heavens Walk
This is a lovely hilly walk which starts from the edge of Stroud and takes you into a beautiful natural area called 'The Heavens'.
There are many alternative paths and areas to explore in The Heavens if you have enough time. This route takes you down into a small valley with a stream, followed by a steady climb through woodland until you reach open countryside, with wonderful views across the whole area and over to Rodborough Common.
You then walk back down into the valley, across a busy road (please be careful) until you reach The Stroud Canal. Here you can enjoy a relaxing stroll along the pretty Stroud Canal which is a popular place to walk.
This is a hilly area so although it's a relatively short walk, you will need plenty of energy.

Quite steep at the start, good views at the top. Pleasant by the canal at the end.

If I lived in Stroud I’d happily be doing this walk and variations of it. There’s a great view out to the severn estuary when you’re at the top. But I traveled 45 minutes to reach the walk looking for something we hadn’t done before and having completed it left somewhat disappointed. The path (and there are many alternates) can be difficult to follow, very muddy and lacks interest often being surrounded by brambles. That said there are a few blue bells showing (end of March) and the rabbits provide a little entertainment. There are better walks for me closer to home.

Dont believe the course notes about this route being challenging. Aside from a mild incline at the start, the route is all flat or downhill. I completed this with my 4 year old with no difficulty. On the birght side, you walk past the Bowbridge Arms pub at the end
