This first Terling route offers an easy-going wander through classic Essex countryside, with open fields and gentle, flat terrain throughout.

The Essex Way weaves through the landscape, linking farmland and village life, while the River Ter adds a quieter, natural thread as it moves through low-lying meadows.

Terling Windmill stands as a local landmark, bringing a touch of history to the walk before getting back to the village pub for your reward.

Walker review

Terling is a very peaceful pretty village , we thoroughly enjoyed this short peaceful walk . Will return to do longer route at sime point . Didn’t use pub or tearoom today however have eaten on previous occasions and would recommend.

Thank you for the lovley walk. There was one little bit on the map, on the leg back towards the parking through the little woodland where the lath and the map didn’t seem to match 100%. We were following the path but the map seemed to indicate we were off path. Not too big a deal, we found our way to match up fairly quickly. That aside it was such a lovley walk. There are a few places where you walk on the road so if you have a dog, be mindful of that. ...Will definitely go back there to explore more of the area.

If you have more time and energy for your adventure, then this second route is a longer extended version of our first walk in Terling.

It enjoys everything from the first route, before then stretching things out into a longer countryside walk with more peaceful farmland and gentle terrain to enjoy.

As with the first route, a nice village pub offers a welcome stop at the end of the walk.

Lovely walk but lots of paths at the edge of fields that were very overgrown. Carried out the walk on a hot day with a dog, very little shade, so the 2 pubs, one en route and one at the end where very much appreciated

A really lovely walk, beautiful views. We took the dog and my two boys of 5 and 7 years. Boys were on their bikes and did have to dismount occasionally but otherwise a really easy route. Will be doing it again for sure.

A very enjoyable walk which next time we will go the opposite way. The pub at the finish is only open Wednesday to Sunday. One of the best walks we have done so far regarding this app. Well done

Really nice walk. Easy to follow. One field has horses roaming and you have to walk through, they were no bother though.
